GEAR
For all of the gear geeks out there.....

Collecting geeky gear is a passion of mine. I don't mind if it's old or new, analogue or digital, hardware or software. I grew up and was in education right around the turn of the Analogue to Digital era so it is all golden to me!

I learned analogue circuit design as well as digital logic of FPGA's and generic software programming. I also in my younger years used to make and sell Class A/B amps, hi-fi and in-car audio speakers with custom design enclosures, hand-wound passive crossovers, etc.

So far as music composition and creation is concerned I still live comfortably with one foot in both domains. Being a classically trained pianist there's nothing quite like an acoustic instrument. That said, today my acoustic piano isn't in my studio but I do have the Kawai MP11se in the studio which I have to say is an amazingly good instrument both to play and listen to.

Almost all my piano sounds are recorded as audio directly from the MP11se. I also enjoy using the Nils Frahm Una Corda NI plugin with my DAW (Ableton Live 10).

I use a range of hardware and soft synths in my music, the two that feature the most are my Roland Juno 60 (more recently it became a Juno 66!) often paired with my Roland 501 tape delay and Arturia's VST re-creation of the amazing Synclavier.

For midi I use a Novation 61SL MKIII. Sometimes I also dust off my 25yr old Yamaha P120 which has great piano, pipe organ and choir voices.

Mixing and monitoring I use ADAM Audio S3V mid-field and Yamaha HS5s near-field, Bayer Dynamics DT 990 Pros and Whetstone W60s but I also tend to playback my final mixes via an active Q Acoustics system using a Chord Mojo DAC for that final check.

Just recently invested in a Roland TR-8 Rhythm Performer second hand from e-Bay so will be tracking the drums machine myself too soon, been using software drum kits up until now. Full list of my gear below.
